| Leaf cutter ants at Yaxchilan! The path was crisscrossed twice by sizeabl
e armies of leaf cutter ants busily hauling away huge bits of leaf held aloft. To reach Yaxchilan, you hop into a river boat and speed up the Usumacinta river where you will see crocs sunning themselves on the logs (and some locals doing the washing standing waist deep in the water!) and everywhere jungle vegetation. Sadly, the jungle is receeding due to the pressure of agriculture. However, by the time you reach Yaxchilan, the jungle is unbroken. |
