| We stayed in Palenque 3 days. On the 3rd day, we took a tourto 2 fantastic sites: Bonampak and Yaxchilan. It's a long long day - you start out before it is light at 6am and you get back around 7-8pm. The first site is Bonampak, which is relatively small and well off the beaten track. The native Indians are closely associated with the site and make a few pesos by ferrying gringos to and from the main road. This is one of the stelae from the site. However, they are not the most stunning feature of the place, which is the amazingly richly painted interiors of the temple (see the next few pix). |
