Palenque You can see the structures on top of the pyramids quite clearly at Palenque. They're called 'roof combs' and no-one quite knows what they were for: some people say they were for balancing the weight on the walls but they were highly decorated so we reckon they were just adding height, much like the head-dresses of the nobles and kings.
