| Another great feature of staying at the Diamante K beach cabanas was that you could take a walk along the beach to the ruins of Tulum standing out like a beacon on the headland. The ruins are spectacular when seen from the beach - at sunset they are quite magnificent and alien looking and you can well imagine the trepidation felt by the Spanish as they sailed along the coast and came upon this still-inhabited city. In fact, Tulum held on for centuries after the conquest. Again, get there early if you don't want to be fricasseed by the sun and overrun by the day-trippers from 'sunny Cancun'. There is a beach for swimming that has a lifeguard in attendance and highly recommended for a cooling swim. |
