| This is Coba, another Mayan ruin which is much less touristed than the other sites we visited. Coba is still mostly claimed by hot and sweaty jungle, which makes a visit very evocative (OK it's not Tikal but close). The structures at Coba are all interconnected by a system of ancient roads, called sacbes. As you can see in the photo, the structures are all quite separated, so the best way to see them is to hire a bicycle and pedal your way thru the jungle along the same roadways that the ancient Mayans used. |
